The Vice-Chacellor, Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, has said that the higher institution is set to host its maiden convocation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history as he stated that the event which started on Monday, March 2 with a press conference will feature series of event such as convocation lecture, and the awarding of degrees to graduating students on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Oghojafor, Professor or Strategic & Entrepreneurial Management on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the University’s main auditorium as he addressed Journalists ahead of Saturday, March 7, DOU’s Maiden Convocation ceremony in Asaba, Delta State Capital.
Prof. Oghojafor who reflected on the institution’s journey since its inception in 202 stated: “We have come a long way,” he said. “From a modest enrollment of 651 students to over 5,800 students in the current session, our growth is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence.”
Prof. Oghojafour highlighted the university’s achievements, including the construction of modern facilities, establishment of a digital library, and the introduction of innovative programs in fields like computing and allied medical sciences. “Our goal is to produce globally competitive graduates who are locally relevant,” he emphasized.
Speaking further during the press conference he said: “The university has a total of 8,672 staff, including 467 academic staff, and offers 86 programs across six faculties. All programs have full accreditation, except for 35 awaiting decision. That the Institution will graduate 25 First class Hons, 167 Second class Hons (Upper Division), 185 Second class Hons (Lower Division) and 39 Third class Hons”.
Prof Ben Oghojafor while addressing Journalists at DOU’s University Auditorium stated that The convocation ceremony scheduled to hold this week, Saturday March 7 will feature the awarding of degrees to 416 students in 28 programs.
He added that the overall best graduate, Mike-Ogisi, Regina Chukwufunmanya, has already qualified as a chartered accountant”.
Prof. Oghojafour who then expressed gratitude to the government and people of Delta State, particularly former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for the opportunity to lead the institution. He said: “Serving as pioneer Vice-Chancellor has been a sour and sweet experience”.
In his words: “The convocation lecture is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by the Founder’s Day Lecture on Friday, March 6, 2026. The degree-awarding ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM”.
“The university has made significant strides in infrastructure development, including the construction of student halls and faculty blocks. The digital library is equipped with modern facilities and uninterrupted power supply”.
