The Association of Local Government Of Nigeria ALGON gives their support for the payment to Linas International Limited.
In their letter to the president of the country and attorney general already received, the ALGON said:
LETTER OF SUPPORT IN FAVOUR OF PAYMENT TO LINAS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED
We refer to the federal High Court judgement 2013, decree Absolute 2015 and the court of Appeal/Supreme Court judgement June 2016- before Federal Government of Nigeria began refunds to LGAs.
We have followed the history of this matter carefully and have made our findings objectively
- We are aware that Linas International Ltd is retained by the individual Local Government Areas with duly signed Powers of Attorney and that Linas International Ltd obtained a judgement of $3.2 billion for the local government councils for a fee of 20% as the agreement was on a contingency basis.
From records made available from Federal Ministry of Finance, it is clear that the Local Government Areas have received full refund under the said judgement obtained by the consultant.
We also understand from Ministry of Finance that the consultant has been paid well over 60% of his fees, with outstanding of 35% excluding interests.
After consulting the NEC of ALGON and other ALGON members, we resolved in the interest of justice and fairness to write to the President of the Country and Honorable Attorney-General of the Federation asking for the balance of the consultant’s fees to be paid as we understand that there is threat of seeking foreign execution of the said judgement and by implication embarrass the government of Nigeria.
There is no justification for the undue delay in completing the payment of the consultant.
