Akpodiete, has honored his mother’s legacy as a great woman, educator and Philanthropist via his Non-governmental Organization, Atawa-Akpodiete Foundation as he awarded full university scholarships to three deserving female students within and across Delta State, Nigeria.
Royal Paradise Media (News Online) learnt this from the Founder of Atawa-Akpodiete Foundation, Professor Alexander .O. Akpodiete in a telephone conversation with our reporter today being on Monday, November 2, 2026 as he shared light on what the full Scholarships award represents while restating commitment towards honoring, celebrating the anniversary of his mother’s legacy and ensuring that another batch of the Foundation’s full Scholarships award to students Commences by March 2027
Speaking further to our reporter, Akpodiete stated that the awards form part of the foundation’s female empowerment programme to support students pursuing Business Education at Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Pharmacy at the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, Delta State; and Biochemistry at Delta State University.
In the words of Professor Alexander .O.. Akpodiete: “The Foundation’s full Scholarship scheme will continue as an example of education and service established by my mother.
“My mother was a great woman, an educator and a philanthropist who empowered many people,” She taught us the value of education and of giving altruistically. She was so loved that many people knew me simply as ‘Nwa Miss’—‘Miss’s child’—because of her work as a teacher.”
“I recall her as being among the early Nigerian women to obtain both master’s and doctoral degrees in the United States before returning to contribute to education in Nigeria”.
“I truly believe in women’s empowerment. ‘Educate a girl child, and you change a whole generation’.
The three awards build on the foundation’s educational assistance to secondary school students. And previous beneficiaries had graduated from Niger Delta University, Delta State University’s law programme and Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku”.
“The Foundation’s wider community work included among others are: Assistance with medical expenses and support for individual empowerment.
Recipients are expected to take their studies seriously and remain accountable for the assistance they receive”.
“The foundation’s scholarship undertaking requires regular attendance, completion of assignments and examinations, compliance with institutional rules, and submission of academic results and evidence of continued enrolment”.
“The Students had also pledge to avoid illicit drugs, examination malpractice, fraud, violence and cultism, and to use scholarship funds solely for approved educational expenses. Official fee schedules and receipts are required, with direct payment to institutions preferred”.
“The undertaking includes a commitment to abstain from sexual relations outside marriage and to avoid becoming pregnant or causing a pregnancy outside marriage. The condition applies to both male and female recipients”.
“The form also provides for confidential and compassionate consideration of personal difficulties. That is, pregnancy alone does not trigger automatic termination, and expressly excludes sexual assault, coercion or abuse from any breach of the pledge.
Each recipient signs the undertaking alongside a parent or guardian. The Head of Department verifies enrolment and relevant academic information”.
“The committee reviews continued support against academic effort, progress, compliance with the conditions, and available funding, giving recipients an opportunity to explain any concerns. Akpodiete sustains these commitments without holding a political appointment or elected office. This is as a result of his faith in God”.
“God makes a way. He never gives a vision without making provision, even when it requires what feels like an onerous sacrifice,. Akpodiete is an educator and cybersecurity and AI governance professional whose background spans technology, law, and community service. Through the foundation supports access to education and helps with other individual and family needs”.
“The foundation also plans to commemorate the 30th anniversary of my Mother’s death on July 27, 2027, by awarding 30 scholarships. The anniversary programme will build on my ongoing educational support and existing Skills Acquisition Center. This is towards continuing from my mother’s legacy through access to education and practical training”.
“Applications for the current scholarship cycle have closed. The next application window is scheduled to open in March 2027 to male and female students across Nigeria, with particular consideration for Deltans and special recognition for applicants of Ukwuani and Urhobo descent. Application procedures and eligibility details will be announced when the new cycle opens”, Prof Alexander .O. Akpodiete concluded. .
