******UNESCO Laureate Congratulates Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi As New Vice Chancellor of UNIABUJA

As the Governing Council of University of Abuja, has approved the appointment of Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi as the institution’s substantive Vice-Chancellor, UNESCO Laureate, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu has commended development as he wishes him a successful tenure as VC.
Royal Paradise Media (News Online) learnt this from the Vice-Chancellor, Crown University Int’l Chartered Inc, USA today being Tuesday, November 11 2025 in a statement made available to Journalists in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T), Abuja as Aremu described Prof Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi as world educator, seasoned scholar and renowned Nigerian Professor.
You could recall that Prof Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi’s appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor of UNIABUJA was announced during the 80th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council.This as contained in a statement by the Acting Director of Information and University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Habib Yakoob.
Aremu in the release commended development, described Prof Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi’s appointment as God’s divine arrangement as he prayed God’ to grant wisdom and protection to the new VC. It was gathered that Prof. Fawehinmi’s appointment will take effect from February 10, 2026, for a single, non-renewable five-year tenure. Currently, Prof. Fawehinmi serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian British University.
Aremu had appreciated the University’s Board of Governing Council on Prof Fawehinmi’s appointment as well as the kind gesture on the approval of an extension of the tenure of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, who will continue in the role until February 10, 2026, when the substantive Vice-Chancellor assumes office.
Aremu used medium to wish UNIABUJA management a smooth transition and continuity in the university’s operations. The First African UNESCO Laureate, Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu, while congratulating Prof. Fawehinmi on his appointment had commended his leadership traits and academic excellence.
Prof. Aremu is a renowned scholar and researcher in computer science and information communication technology, with professorships in various global and Nigerian universities. Prof. Aremu is currently the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Science and Computing at Minaret University Ikirun, Nigeria. He has received numerous international awards and recognition for his contributions to education, science, and technology.
The statement by UNESCO Laureate reads in part: “Prof. Fawehinmi’s appointment is a testament to his academic and administrative expertise, and he is expected to lead UNIABUJA to greater heights. The university community will witness a leadership and vision poised with capacity towards promoting academic excellence and innovation”.
