Comrade (Chief) Mulade Sheriff, PhD, a prominent Ijaw Leader and Peace Advocate, has stated that the 2026 budget will be a determining factor for Ijaw votes for Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the forthcoming 2027 governorship election in Delta State as he makes case for more projects, Delta riverine communities development.
Royal Paradise Media (News Online) learnt this from Comrade Chief Sheriff Mulade today being Saturday, November 15, 2025 in a press statement made available to Journalists in Asaba, Delta State Capital as he tasks Oborevwori on development of Riverine Communities of Delta State.
Mulade had emphasized that the adequate inclusion and funding of projects in riverine areas will be a critical consideration for political support.
CEPEJ Boss who then commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the infrastructural development in upland areas but lamented the absence of similar projects in riverine communities despite Their significant contributions to the state’s revenue.
He noted that some Ijaw communities, such as Ogulagha, Torugbene, and Ojobo, are densely populated and host multinational oil and gas companies, yet they lack basic infrastructure.
The statement by Chief Mulade, Ibe Sorimowei of the Gbaramatu Kingdom reads in part: “This highlights the need for the state government to prioritize the development of these areas. Let me remind Governor Oborevwori that the Ijaws had supported him during the election season and that it was time for him to reciprocate through tangible projects”.
“We have created a conducive atmosphere to boost oil and gas production, making Delta the richest state; support security, douse restiveness, and supported economic stability. It is time for the governor to reciprocate through the 2026 budget with tangible legacy projects.”
“These are the several critical projects that should be considered for inclusion in the 2026 budget, including the Ayakoromo bridge, Omadino-Okerenkoko-Kokodiagbene-Escravos road, and Aladja-Ogbe-Ijoh Road. I I also appealed for the construction of a first-class Health Centre/General Hospital in Ogulagha Town to compensate the people for their huge contributions to the state’s revenue”.
“On education, I urge the Oborevwori to consider upgrading the Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, to a campus of the Delta State University, Abraka. This, would position the state to explore blue economy opportunities. I also requests that the state government build a campus of Dennis Osadebe University at Koko to give the Itsekiri people a sense of belonging”.
“The consideration of these projects would translate into votes come 2027. “The consideration of revolutionary projects in the riverine areas in the 2026 budget will give a sense of belonging to the people for their huge contributions. Moreover, your commitment to development will write your name in gold, not just seeking their votes during elections.”
Mulade finally assured Governor Oborevwori of 100 percent Ijaw votes in the 2027 election if he commits to developing the riverine areas. He said: “The ball is now in the governor’s court as the Ijaw community awaits tangible projects in the 2026 budget”.
