OVIE OMO-AGEGE, ERHIATAKE IBORI- SUENU- WHITHER IS YOUR POLITICAL AGENDA ?
One credit we must give to the former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo – Agege is that he was pivotal to building the Delta State APC to the level it was before the 2023 general elections. This is without prejudice to the efforts of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor who is regarded as the founding father of APC in Delta state. Also, Erhiatake Ibori- Suenu, the House of Representatives member representing the Ethiope East / Ethiope West Federal constituency made headlines when she defected from the PDP to the APC on the 6th December, 2024.
With the official movement of Sheriff Oborevwori together with PDP stakeholders from the PDP to the APC on the 23rd of April , 2025 it was expected that Omo Agege and Erhiatake Ibori- Suenu would be comfortable to belong to a big united APC family in Delta State.
On the 28th of April 2025 when the Vice President , Kashim Shettima received the entire Delta PDP structure into APC at the Cenotaph Asaba, Senator Ovie Omo- Agege was physically present. He even joined the Vice- President in raising the hands of Sheriff Oborevwori in symbolic acceptance of the Governor as the new head of the APC family in Delta State
It is unfortunate that since after the Cenotaph event of 28th April, 2025, Senator Ovie Omo Agege and his major supporters have kept off from subsequent APC meetings in the State. Even Erhiatake Ibori -Suenu who is a beneficiary of the present Administration of Sheriff Oborevwori has distanced herself from state APC meetings and functions. On the 29th of May 2025 when Delta State celebrated the two years anniversary of the Oborevwori administration with a thanksgiving Service at the State Event Centre at Asaba , both Omo Agege and Erhiatake Ibori Suenu were visibly absent. All the three Senators of Deltan state were present at the thanksgiving service and so were most of the House of Representatives members. The immediate past Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa came with his amiable wife . Also present were the Hon Minister of Aviation and Aerospace development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN and the state APC chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie as well as major Traditional Rulers in the state.
The question on the lips of many people in Delta state is- what does Omo Agege and Mrs Ibori -Suenu really want? What is preventing them from participating in APC meetings in the state, even when they are invited officially and their seats tagged with their names?
Even when there was an APC Delta Central meeting recently in which President Tinubu and Oborevwori were adopted for second term Omo Agege and Hon Erhiatake were absent.
As at the last count, the supporters of Ovie Omo Agege also boycotted the Delta South APC stakeholders meeting which took place at Oleh recently . Omo Agege and Ibori -Suenu claim to be supporting President Ahmed Tinubu on one hand but actually have been working against Delta State APC which also has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term come 2027 on the other hand. What a paradox !
Granted that the duo have a problem with the Delta APC what excuse do Omo Agege and Erhiatake have for not attending the South -South APC stakeholders meeting in Benin recently? It is high time Senator Ovie Omo Agege and Erhiatake Ibori- Suenu came out openly to tell Deltans that they have left the APC or have chosen to remain in the APC with a hidden Agenda. It does not serve the Delta APC any good to have some of its members playing a game of hide and seek
Omo Agege is behaving like the fictional character, Chidodo in Ola Rotimi’s , “The gods are not blame” which detests excreta but loves to eat the worm in the excreta. Is this the quality of someone who aspires to govern Delta state? This trait of “me or no one else” gives the impression that politics is all about self and not the people. Deltans are now wiser for it as the likes of Omo Agege and his supporters are gradually losing out of the power game because they have distanced themselves from those they aspire to govern.
It is a known fact that Delta APC is now one United family. The Governor of Delta state, Sheriff Oborevwori has been unanimously adopted as the Leader of the Party. The once factionalized Party that Omo Agege could not unite is now one. For the first time in the history of APC in Delta State , Party stalwarts like Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Festus Keyamo, Richard Odibo, Rt Hon Victor Ochei , Elder Omeni Sobotie and all the three APC Senators in Delta state are united under Sheriff Oborevwori ‘s leadership. It is a pity that we are unable to find Omo Agege’s name or Erhiatake Ibori- Suenu’s name in this long list because they are just not available. Or are they not APC members again?
It is due to the foregoing that one is forced to ask again: Omo Agege and Erhiatake Ibori -Suenu, what do you really want?
